Sheriff’s Office identifies Lake North/Lake Babcock waterway drowning victim
The Platte County Sheriff’s Office on Monday revealed the identity of the person who drowned on Sunday at the Lake North/Lake Babcock waterway north of Columbus.
Nicholas Rodriguez, 19, of Wayne, drowned while attempting to assist a friend he was on the waterway with, according to information provided by the sheriff’s office. Nearby witnesses were able to rescue the first person from the lake, according to released information.
Sheriff’s deputies responded at approximately 10:30 a.m. in reference to a possible drowning in the vicinity. Upon arrival, the department participated in a multiple-hour search in collaboration with Columbus Fire and Rescue, the Platte County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team, the Waterloo Fire and Rescue Department and the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
