Man Convicted Eight Times Glad To Be Sent To Prison
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) _ An man convicted of drunken driving for the eighth time says he is glad he has been sentenced to prison.
″I deserve it. ... I would have killed somebody sooner or later,″ Bruce Nyhart Rogers Jr., 31, said Wednesday, saying he would not appeal the conviction and 1 1/2 -year sentence.
Court authorities said Rogers, of Annapolis, had two prior convictions in Anne Arundel County, four in Florida and two in Washington state.
The latest charge stemmed from an accident Nov. 26.
In an interview at the county Detention Center, Rogers said he has been drinking since he was 16 and looks forward to alcoholism counseling offered in prison.
″I’d like to live a normal life when I get out.″ But he admitted he did not benefit from court-ordered treatment two months before the accident.
Rogers’ trial had been scheduled for Feb. 17, but was postponed because he came to court intoxicated, said assistant State’s Attorney John LeCornu.
