Atlanta Braves Sign Lockhart, Bako

ATLANTA (AP) _ Utility infielder Keith Lockhart and catcher Paul Bako agreed to one-year contracts Wednesday with the Atlanta Braves.

Contract terms were not announced.

Lockhart hit .265 with two home runs and 32 RBIs in 113 games last season, his fourth with the Braves. As a pinch hitter, however, he batted only .040 (1-for-25).

Lockhart started 53 games at second base after Quilvio Veras underwent knee surgery midway in the season. The 36-year-old also started eight games at third base.

Bako, 28, acquired from the Florida Marlins during the 2000 season, appeared in 24 games for Atlanta and batted .190 with two homers and six RBIs. Overall, he batted .226 with two homers and 20 RBIs in 81 games.
