PARIS (AP) _ France beat defending champion Sweden 28-25 in overtime Sunday to win the men’s team handball title at the world championships.
France, which last won the title in 1995, scored in the final seconds of regulation.
Sweden led for most of the first five-minute extra period. France led 26-25 lead early in the second period. With 90 seconds left, the French went up by two goals. Sweden missed a penalty shot in the final minute and France stretched its lead to 28-25.
Yugoslavia finished in third place, beating Egypt 27-17.
