Car Bomb Explodes in Madrid
MADRID, Spain (AP) _ A car bomb exploded Wednesday in Madrid after a warning call came from the armed Basque separatist group ETA, Spanish media reported.
The blast occurred around 9:30 a.m. in a northern section of the Spanish capital. Officials had no immediate report on casualties.
Police had cordoned off the area where the bomb went off after a caller to the Basque newspaper Gara, often a mouthpiece for ETA, said a bomb would go off inside a Renault van.
TV images showed a large column of black smoke rising from the area of the explosion.
ETA had not been blamed for an attack in Madrid since February.
