N. Carolina 83, No. 19 N.C. State 77

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) _ Coretta Brown scored six of her 22 points in overtime as North Carolina beat No. 19 North Carolina State 83-77 on Sunday.

Brown hit a jumper in the lane and a free throw to put North Carolina (9-6, 3-3 Atlantic Coast Conference) up 73-71 with six seconds left. N.C. State’s Amy Simpson made two free throws with no time left to send the game into overtime.

Brown’s driving one-hander from the lane with 1:25 left in overtime was her third straight basket in the extra period and gave the Tar Heels a 79-75 lead.

N.C. State (11-5, 2-4) made just two of seven shots in overtime, the last coming with 1:11 left on a pull-up jumper by Tynesha Lewis to cut the lead to 79-77.

The Wolfpack missed its last two attempts in overtime, while North Carolina’s Leah Sharp made four straight free throws in the final 15.1 seconds.

LaQuanda Barksdale had 21 points and 15 rebounds for North Carolina. Brown also had seven assists, four rebounds and three steals.

Lewis had 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Carisse Moody and Adeola Olanrewaju added 14 each.

N.C. State took the game’s biggest lead at 53-46 with 12:22 left in regulation on a jumper by Olanrewaju. After North Carolina tied it at 53 on a jumper by Chrystal Baptist, neither team led by more than a basket until overtime.
