Twins Turn Down Griffith’s Offer
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) _ The Minnesota Twins rejected Clark Griffith’s $110 million offer to buy the American League franchise.
Twins president Jerry Bell told Griffith on Tuesday that the offer didn’t include enough cash. Griffith made an offer about two months ago to buy the team from Carl Pohlad.
``The offer wasn’t substantial enough from a cash standpoint fur us to consider it,″ Bell said. ``If Griffith wants to come back with a different offer, we will consider it.
A group led by Griffith, the son of former Twins owner Calvin Griffith, was the only potential buyer to submit a bid before a Sept. 14 deadline.
Pohlad reportedly is seeking $140 million for the team. He bought the Twins from Calvin Griffith for $38 million in 1984.
