SEATTLE — Forecasters and regulators say poor air quality will be common across parts of the Pacific Northwest this week as winds push smoke from surrounding wildfires into the region. SCIENCE SAYS-WILDFIRE-FUEL

As temperatures rise in the U.S. West, so do the flames. The years with the most acres burned by wildfires have some of the hottest temperatures, an Associated Press analysis of fire and weather data found. VOLCANO MONITORS

DARRINGTON, Wash. — Town leaders are urging the U.S. Forest Service to give the go-ahead on a long-awaited project to keep closer watch on the volcano in the wilderness east of here.
