Over 1,000 Crashes Investigated Over Holiday Weekend

WYOMING — State police investigated 1,116 crashes over Thanksgiving weekend, a nearly 14 percent increase over the previous year, according to numbers released Tuesday. Statewide, 80 crashes were alcohol-related, 213 were injured and four people were killed in four separate crashes, troopers said. Troop P — which covers northern Luzerne County as well as Wyoming, Bradford and Sullivan counties — responded to 24 crashes, although none of them resulted in injuries. Three of the crashes were alcohol-related, troopers said. The troop also issued 416 speeding tickets, made 19 driving under the influence arrests and issued more than 850 citations for other various violations, police said. — JAMES HALPIN
