RANDOLPH, Vt. (AP) — Police say a 28-year-old man who jumped into "extremely shallow" water has died.

Vermont state police say they found Randolph resident Zachary Allard unresponsive at a local swimming hole on Friday night. Rescuers pronounced Allard dead at the scene.

Police say Allard had recently arrived at the swimming hole and dove from a rock into shallow water. Family members then pulled Allard to shore and tried to resuscitate him until rescuers arrived.
