BRADLEY — Demolition of the North Street overpass in east Bradley is set to begin next week.

At Monday’s Bradley Village Board meeting, village officials noted the project has started slowly because of issues revolving around the moving of utility lines, but those are being resolved.

Terry Memenga, the village’s director of public works, anticipates that early next week, demolition should start on the overpass constructed in the 1960s to get North Street motorists over Interstate 57.

The $3.9 million project is being coordinated by D Construction Inc., of Coal City.

The project will remove the existing two-lane structure and replace it with a four-lane roadway section with an 8-foot wide shared use path on the north side of the overpass deck.

North Street will be closed between Pierce Avenue on the west side of the overpass and Cardinal Drive on its east side.

The project had been expected to be completed by the fall, but because of its slower than expected start, it is set to be completed before the end of the year.
