Troy State Sports Official Dies
TROY, Ala. (AP) _ Tom Bilello, associate athletic director at Troy State, is dead at 34 after collapsing at the wheel while driving home from his school’s football game.
He died Saturday night and the cause of death has not been determined.
Bilello was driving from Tallahassee, Fla., following Troy State’s game against Florida A&M when he collapsed, officials said. He was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead.
``We are deeply saddened, and our thoughts and prayers go out to Tom’s family and friends,″ Troy State athletic director Johnny Williams said Sunday. ``We will miss him dearly.″
Bilello joined the Troy State athletic department in 1997 as assistant athletic director for internal affairs. He was promoted to associate athletic director during the summer.
Bilello previously was assistant athletic director at Longwood College and also worked at American University.
``I’ve never seen anybody spend as much time trying to make sure every detail was covered. He did a tremendous job ...″ Troy State football coach Larry Blakeney said.
Funeral arrangements were pending.
