Destination Cleveland heads to Great American Beer Festival; city is 1 of 6 represented in travel pavilion

CLEVELAND, Ohio – The folks at Destination Cleveland will be promoting Northeast Ohio’s craft-brewery scene at this year’s Great American Beer Festival, and they aren’t going empty-handed.

Cleveland will be one of six cities whose beer scenes will be touted at the annual fest in Denver. More than 60,000 people attend the three-day event, which is Thursday-Sunday, Sept. 20-22.

Destination Cleveland reps will be at GABF’s craftbeer.com #BeerTravel pavilion, and passersby won’t go thirsty.

The non-profit convention and visitors bureau is one-upping a boring key-chain giveaway at a convention. It will present a signature beer at the booth – Shoreway IPA. The hazy India Pale Ale was brewed at Terrestrial Brewing Co. in Cleveland’s Battery Park neighborhood.

The folks at Destination Cleveland say it was crafted with support from local breweries including Bookhouse, Brick and Barrel, Butcher and the Brewer, Collision Bend, Fat Head’s, Goldhorn, Great Lakes, Hansa, The Jolly Scholar, Market Garden, Masthead, Noble Beast, Platform, Sibling Revelry, Willoughby and Working Class.

Shoreway IPA also will be offered for a limited time at Terrestrial, 7524 Father Frascati Dr.

And while folks are tasting the beer, they will receive a Cleveland Brewery Passport, which encourages visitors to check out Northeast Ohio breweries. The program launched this year.

The other cities represented in the booth will be Chicago; Grand Rapids, Michigan; Milwaukee; St. Petersburg, Florida; and Santa Rosa, California.

GABF, started in 1982, is a main event for brewers and craft-beer aficionados alike. Ohio breweries consistently hold their own in a massive, blind-judged competition that encompasses scores of beer styles. In 2017,

Northeast Ohio breweries earned five of the state’s nine medals.
