McCrory Stores Chairman To Resign
NEW YORK (AP) _ Five-and-dime store operator McCrory Corp. announced Friday that Steve Jackel has resigned as chairman of the company’s McCrory Stores division.
Jackel joined McCrory in March 1992 immediately after the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. His main task, to restructure the McCrory’s headquarters in York, Pa., has now been completed, the company said.
Upon Jackel’s departure, McCrory president Cal Warren will become chairman and chief executive of McCrory Stores. Ted Watkins, corporate vice president, will become president and chief operating officer of the division.
McCrory, a subsidiary of New York-based Riklis Holding Corp., currently operates about 820 variety stores in 39 states under the names McCrory, G.C. Murphy, J.J. Newberry, McLellan, H.L. Green, S.H. Kress and T.G.&Y.
