NEW YORK (AP) _ Andy Pettitte was put on the 15-day disabled list by the New York Yankees on Sunday because of a sore left elbow.

Pettitte left Monday's start at Boston after three innings because of pain in the elbow, which limited him to two major league starts during spring training. The left-hander has made three starts during the season, going 1-1 with a 3.09 ERA. The Yankees put him on the DL retroactive to April 16.

Randy Choate, another left-hander, was recalled from Triple-A Columbus to fill Pettitte's roster spot. Choate began the season with the Yankees and struggled, going 0-0 with an 8.44 ERA in 5 1/3 innings before he was optioned to Columbus on April 12.
