DENVER (AP) _ Mike Gallego, the Colorado Rockies' roving minor league infield coordinator, was promoted to the major league coaching staff on Wednesday.

Gallego, 41, will assume varied duties as he replaces Rich Donnelly, who resigned on Monday.

Bench coach Toby Harrah will assume Donnelly's duties as third-base coach on a permanent basis.

Gallego joined the Rockies minor league staff prior to the 2000 season after serving in the same capacity with the Boston Red Sox. His 13-year big league career included consecutive World Series appearances with the Oakland Athletics. He also played with the New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals.

Gallego will join the Rockies for a series in Philadelphia on Friday.
