Warrenville man charged with harming 2-month-old

February 28, 2019

A Warrenville man was charged Feb. 22 in connection with an investigation involving the abuse of a 2-month-old infant.

Spencer Allen Beylotte, 24, of Les Drive, is charged with unlawful neglect of a child, according to jail records.

On Jan. 6, 2019, Aiken County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a nearby hospital after a baby had been brought in with apparent head trauma, according to the report.

Beylotte, the child’s father, arrived at the hospital with the baby’s mother. They both claimed the baby had fallen off a couch at their Les Drive residence about five weeks prior and had been hospitalized for a short time before being released, the report states.

About a week after the first incident, the couple brought the baby back to the hospital because he had stopped breathing and was turning pale.

The child was admitted to the hospital, but was released to his parents after doctors claimed there appeared to be nothing wrong with the baby, police reported.

On Jan. 6, the infant was taken to the hospital for a third time after he had reportedly stopped breathing.

Investigators spoke with the doctor and medical staff who examined the baby and they claimed they saw injuries on the boy consistent with recent abuse, according to the report.

One hospital official told deputies the damage to the child was not consistent with a fall from a couch several weeks prior, but the injuries appeared to be from shaken baby syndrome, police reported.

Following an investigation, Beylotte was arrested on Feb. 22 and taken to the Aiken County detention center, where he was released on a $10,000 bond the same day.
