WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) _ Two boys tossing around a piece of pipe got it tangled in electrical wires, knocking out power and cable TV service to thousands of customers, authorities said.

''They didn't realize they were throwing it so high,'' Palm Beach Gardens police Sgt. William Yakshe said. The boys apologized, he said.

The two friends, 12 and 15, got the pipe lodged in wires Sunday afternoon, causing a loud bang, said Steve Totter, Florida Power & Light customer service supervisor. As many as 6,000 customers were without power for up to 3 1/4 hours.

Cable TV customers also lost service briefly, but the number affected was not immediately known.

''I don't think they will do it again,'' Totter said. ''They're just lucky they didn't get hurt.''
