ASHBURN, Va. (AP) _ Jacquez Green, who earlier this season expressed concern over his lack of playing time, was waived Tuesday by the Washington Redskins.

The Redskins also promoted receiver Justin Skaggs from the practice squad. Skaggs will get a chance to take over Green’s duties as punt returner.

Green, one of five former Florida players on ex-Gators coach Steve Spurrier’s roster, signed a three-year, $4.3 million contract in March as a free agent from Tampa Bay. But he had just five catches for 94 yards through 10 games for the Redskins. He was one of several players who openly questioned Spurrier’s constant shuffling of receivers earlier this season.

Also the team’s primary punt returner, Green had a 90-yard runback for a touchdown against Philadelphia in Week 2, but has since averaged about 5 yards per return.

Green left last Sunday’s game against Jacksonville with a cut in his leg that required six stitches. He said Monday he was sore, but that he would be able to play Sunday against the New York Giants.

Skaggs, an undrafted free agent from Evangel College in Missouri, is one of the fastest players on the team. He was also on the practice squad most of last season before moving to the active roster for the final two games.
