BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) _ Quarterback Sleepy Robinson ran for two touchdowns and passed for a third Saturday night as Mississippi State used a grinding ground game to down Louisiana State 28-19 in the Southeastern Conference.

Robinson ran for 78 yards and directed the Bulldogs to 467 yards of offense in spoiling LSU’s homecoming before 67,724.

A standout in defeat was LSU’s Todd Kinchen, who caught nine passes for a Southeastern Conference-record 248 yards. He got LSU (4-6 overall, 3-4 SEC) off to a quick start when he caught a 75-yard TD pass from Jess Daigle on the second play of the game.

Robinson scampered in from 11 yards out as Mississippi State (6-4, 3-3) tied it, then struck again with a 16-yard run to cap an 11-play, 63-yard drive that gave Mississippi State the lead.

The Bulldogs, who did not attempt a pass until 1:38 left in the first half, made it 21-7 when Robinson connected with William Prince on an 11-yard pass that was set up with a 47-yard completion to Tony James that put Mississippi State at the Tiger 15.

An aggressive defense kept Daigle off balance and held the Tigers out of the end zone in the second half until Daigle’s 7-yard pass to flanker Wesley Jacob with just over five minutes left in the game.

Daigle, who passed for 396 yards, hit on his third touchdown when he connected on a 4-yard pass to Vincent Fuller.

Mississippi State struck again in the fourth period on a seven-play, 47- yard drive with running back Michael Davis powering in from the 5.

Running back Kenny Roberts led Mississippi State with 156 yards.

The previous SEC receiving yardage record was 237 by Florida’s Carlos Alvarez in 15 catches against Miami in 1969.
