Courtney Clyburn-Pope elected Aiken circuit court judge in unopposed election
In a surprising twist in the election to fill a retiring circuit court judge’s position, all candidates but one withdrew their names for consideration shortly before the S.C. legislature’s vote Tuesday, allowing Aiken City Solicitor Courtney Clyburn-Pope to win the election unopposed.
Clyburn-Pope will now preside over cases in Aiken, Bamberg and Barnwell counties following Tuesday’s election.
Her opponents were Aiken County Master-in-Equity Anderson Griffith and second Deputy Solicitor David Miller.
Griffith and Miller could not immediately be reached for comment.
