Man arrested for 2017 burglary

October 2, 2018

Authorities have arrested a man for allegedly stealing nearly $30,000 worth of items in a burglary more than a year ago.

Michael R. May, 26, was arrested for the burglary near Adams that occurred in August 2017.

The residence on East Birch Road had been ransacked as well as a nearby outbuilding.

Numerous items were reported taken, including thousands of rounds of ammunition, gun magazines, hunting supplies, computers, an iPad and a GPS system, according to court documents. The total estimated value of the items taken was nearly $30,000.

Three months later, Beatrice police found a bag identified as the victim’s that contained hundreds of rounds of ammunition and gun magazines. A witness said that May was carrying the bag around.

During the investigation, authorities learned May had pawned a GPS system at a pawn shop in Lincoln two days after the reported burglary. He was interviewed and confirmed he pawned the item but denied involvement in the burglary, court documents state.

Last week, police received new information that May was familiar with the residence and a witness allegedly told police May had admitted to her that he broke into a house outside Beatrice last year.

May, who was already in custody at the Gage County jail for an unrelated drug case, was interviewed again and allegedly admitted to committing the burglary and gave police details about the burglary.

May’s bond is set at $7,500 with a 10 percent deposit. His next hearing is set for Oct. 15.
