Dorin-Ballard, Mullin Lead Teams in Qualifying
NEW ORLEANS (AP) _ Pro bowler Carolyn Dorin-Ballard of Richardson, Texas, averaged 229 for six games Sunday to help the Ebonite Omegas take the women’s division lead after six qualifying games in the World Team Bowling Challenge at Don Carter All-Star Lanes.
Mike Mullin of New City, N.Y., averaged 216 to help the Columbia Cuda C’s take the open division lead.
Dorin, a two-time LPBT champion who recently married top men’s pro Del Ballard Jr., led her team from Hopkinsville, Ky., to a 6,054 total and a 222-point lead over Team USA.
Joining Dorin-Ballard were former Wichita State stars Tara Henderson with 1,271, Lisa Skibinski with 1,175 and Kelly Everding with 1,064 and pro Leanne Barrette of Yukon, Okla., with 1,173.
Mullin, a star at St. John’s, helped his team from San Antonio to a 6,091 total and a five-pin lead over the Ebonite Nitro/R’s.
Mullin was helped by Brian Boghosian with 1,280, Florida pro Jim Johnson Jr. with 1,215, Mike Lichstein with 1,154 and Patrick Allen with 1,144.
