BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) _ It’s not as much fun as Margaritaville, but Jimmy Buffett may be headed for the board of trustees of Florida Atlantic University.

Buffett, who lives in Palm Beach, and former presidential candidate Michael Dukakis were among 24 people the faculty chose to join the 11-member board. Gov. Jeb Bush expects to make the appointments by June 30.

``Buffett’s inspired a whole generation,″ said David Lee, the FAU professor who put together the list of recommendations. ``His stand on the environment is impressive, and he would understand how the university can help improve the human condition.″

The 54-year-old singer supported a recent lawsuit filed by an environmental group against Bush and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, accusing them of doing too little to protect manatees.

Buffett, whose hits include ``Margaritaville″ and ``Cheeseburger in Paradise,″ was not available for comment.
