Fire Strikes Bar Where Student Was Found Strangled
WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ An arson fire caused nearly $100,000 in damage early Monday at a bar where a Wichita State University student was found strangled during a New Year’s Eve party.
Battalion Fire Chief Dick Ridder who estimated the damage said the fire was definitely arson. He said someone had broken in the front door and set the fire just inside.
Police said witnesses reported seeing a car driven away from the club at high speed shortly before the fire was discovered.
Authorities have found no new leads in the death of Alice Mayfield, 19, a WSU student who was found dead in a storage room at The Flicker lounge Friday. About 200 to 250 people were at the bar.
