Amy Jo Gerstetter

Amy Jo (Fritz) Gerstetter, born Oct. 15, 1953, and long-time resident of Herscher and almost 13-year cancer survivor, attained eternal rest and victory over cancer Saturday (Sept. 1, 2018).

She lived for her children and grandchildren and enjoyed maintaining her yard and being a Herscher band mom and Florida snowbird.

Amy married her surviving spouse, Robert Gerstetter, on June 5, 2010, at Herscher Christian Church.

She also is survived by her brother, Jeffrey (Dr. Mary Olsen) Fritz, of Beaumont, Texas, as well as sons, Matthew (Tricia) Drozda of Kankakee, Chris Drozda, of Bourbonnais, and Eric (Breanna) Ewald, of Herscher; two stepdaughters, Stacy (Scottie Baiter) Gerstetter, of Beecher, and Melissa (Ritchie) Mucha, of Lockport; 10 grandchildren, Savanna, Kolton and River, Stephanie, Lindsay, Alexis and Samantha and Austin, Tyler and Brian; two nephews, Tyler Fritz and Carter (Jenny) Fritz, of Austin Texas; one uncle and one aunt; and many cousins.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Bernard and Virginia (Mau) Fritz; and many aunts and uncles.

Amy worked more than 10 years at Municipal Bank (Bourbonnais Branch) until her retirement. Prior employment included State Bank of Herscher, Josten’s and many others.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at Schreffler Funeral Homes, Kankakee Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, also at the funeral home. Burial will be in Kankakee Memorial Gardens in Aroma Township. The Rev. Kevin Boesen of Herscher United Methodist Church will officiate the services.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Kankakee Valley, Herscher United Methodist Church or Miller Rehabilitation Center.
