Lackawanna County DA’s Office Warns Of Scams Targeting The Elderly
SCRANTON — Officials with the Lackawanna County District Attorney’s Office are warning residents about financial scams targeting the elderly.
The office has recently been involved in three incidents of seniors sending thousands of dollars via mail. During two instances, local residents tried to send $10,000 and $50,000 via UPS. Vigilant employees at the Dickson City UPS Store alerted police and authorities working where the money was headed arrested three people. Scranton police arrested three men last month after they called a West Virginia woman and told her to send them money to the city because her grandson had been arrested and needed money for an attorney.
People are reminded never to give out their personal information over the phone and if they ever receive a call requesting or demanding money, to call their local police department or the Lackawanna County Area Agency on Aging at 570-963-6740.
