Roof Partially Collapses at Czech Store

PRAGUE, Czech Republic (AP) _ Part of a supermarket’s roof collapsed under the weight of snow Tuesday in northeastern Czech Republic, injuring an employee, a firefighter said.

The collapse occurred at about 7:30 p.m. at the Lidl supermarket _ a German-based chain _ in the town of Ostrava, 218 miles east of Prague, firefighter Kamil Macek said.

The supermarket was still open at the time, authorities said, but it was not known how many people were inside at the time.

One employee was hospitalized with a shoulder injury, fire department spokesman Petr Faster said, adding that he did not know if anyone else was hurt.

In southern Germany, the snow-laden roof of an ice rink collapsed Monday, killing at least 11 people.
