Man charged with murder of longtime partner in Pleak
The quiet village of Pleak, a village of about 1,000 people about five miles directly south of Rosenberg in Fort Bend County, has been rocked by a reported murder.
The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office responded to an incident in the 6900 block of Pleak Crossing on Monday, March 11. At the scene, deputies discovered Brandy Cano, 23, had been shot.
Santana Ray Lasoya, 24, has been charged with the murder of Cano. The Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office reports that Lasoya and Cano had been a couple for six years. They were the parents of a 3-year-old daughter, who is reportedly now in the custody of Cano’s family.
According to Sheriff Troy Nehls, the couple was at their home when an argument turned physical. Losoya reportedly told authorities he wanted to leave and reached for a gun but Cano stopped him. He claimed that the handgun accidentally went off and Cano was shot in the head. Deputies reportedly found her dead in a bedroom.
Lasoya is being held at the Fort Bend County Jail on a $100,000 bond. Lasoya’s only other listed incident in Fort Bend County was a resisting arrest case in 2012, which was dismissed “in the interests of justice,” according to Fort Bend County District Clerk records.
The incident in Pleak is currently under investigation by Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office detectives and the Crime Scene Unit.
