Smooth Sailing for Fitchburg Pizzas
FITCHBURG -- Potholes. No one likes them, especially when hitting one sends your pizza careening off the seat of your car.
Domino’s Pizza, asserting that each delivered pie requires a smooth trip to its destination, announced Wednesday that the city was selected for a $5,000 grant paving grant.
The city is one of 11 communities selected for the grant so far, a company spokesperson said in a statement.
“Cracks, bumps and potholes can easily ruin a good carryout pizza, and nobody wants that,” said Fitchburg Domino’s franchise owner Shawn Laing.
Fitchburg was selected to receive the grant after an “overwhelming” number of residents nominated their city for the “Paving for Pizza” promotion, the spokesperson said.
Domino’s has decided to expand the “Paving for Pizza” promotion to help pave roads in one community in all 50 states, the spokesperson said.
The company received 137,000 nominations from 15,275 different zip codes in all 50 states.
Laing, the local franchisee, welcomed news of the grant.
“We’re thrilled that Fitchburg was selected as a grant recipient to help smooth the ride home for our carryout customers,” he said.
