Teen killed, father injured in Springfield shooting
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — The new year was barely an hour old when Springfield had its first homicide of 2015.
Police say an 18-year-old man was shot in the upper back while walking on Mill Street just before 12:30 a.m. Thursday.
The victim died at the hospital about 45 minutes later.
The teen’s 39-year-old father was also struck, but is expected to survive.
Their names have not been released.
Police think a black SUV-type vehicle pulled alongside the father and son and then someone inside the vehicle fired the shots.
There was no word on arrests.
