Crews work to break up Brattleboro ice jam

January 25, 2019

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) — Crews are working to break up an ice jam on a brook in Brattleboro, Vermont, that prompted some evacuations.

Mynbc.com reports that the 200-foot-long ice jam on Whestone Brook forced 19 homes to be evacuated on Thursday. The flood waters, which have reached 3-feet-deep in some spots, are impacting residents of the Mountain Home Trailer Park. Two other areas were also evacuated on Thursday as a precaution. Those residents have been allowed to go back home.

Crews are hoping to remove some of the ice with heavy equipment to allow the water back into the bed of the brook to alleviate flooding. They hope residents will be able to return to their homes Friday evening.
