St. Albans Church celebrates 150-year anniversary

First Presbyterian Church of St. Albans will be hosting an open house event on Saturday and Sunday, August 18-19.

ST. ALBANS, W.Va. — With its well-known bell tower, First Presbyterian Church of St. Albans has become a landmark church for the area. Located at Kanawha Terrace and 3rd Avenue, people have been congregating there for 150 years. To celebrate this milestone in their history, First Presbyterian is opening its doors for fun, family and worshiping throughout the weekend Aug. 18 and 19.

The community is invited to join them for an open house celebration, regardless of denominational affiliation. The open house is scheduled to begin on Saturday morning and will last for all day, featuring food, games, crafts, tours and entertainment. Entertainment scheduled for the evening will be provided by the Pres by Pickers. A catered dinner is also scheduled for the community.

On Sunday, Aug. 19, a special worship service will be held to honor the legacy and fellowship that has occurred over the past 150 years. This service is scheduled to start at 9 a.m. with tours throughout the First Presbyterian church. Then regularly scheduled services will resume at 10 a.m. along with Sunday school classes. Immediately following the services, the church is scheduled to hold a reception with refreshments in their fellowship hall at 11 a.m. The community is invited to both

events scheduled throughout the two-day anniversary.

To prepare for this celebration weekend, First Presbyterian Church of St. Albans is asking residents and visitors along with past and recent church member to share their memorials and ref lections about time spent at the church. Recipes are also welcomed as they represent the past and heritage which have helped First Presbyterian celebrate many lasting memories throughout their history. These recipes will be collected along with ref lections to be compiled into a book commemorating First Presbyterian Church of St. Albans.
