Short-handed Blue Griffins beat Waldorf in nondistrict match
The Santa Fe Prep volleyball team is almost healthy, and almost was good enough Wednesday night.
The Blue Griffins were still missing middle hitter Comfort Randolph, but they had enough weapons at their disposal for a 25-15, 25-19, 25-22 nondistrict win over Santa Fe Waldorf in Prep Gymnasium. Prep relied on strong serving and a good enough block to slow down Lady Wolves hitters Rose Moon and Nicoya Dant.
Prep head coach Kiran Bhakta credited the front-row play of Aubrianna Talachy and Daisy Cunningham for helping with that.
“We knew we couldn’t account for everything because of how talented those girls are,” Bhakta said. “But if we could slow them down for our back row, that would be enough. We did that, and our girls stepped up their blocking a little bit and they had to hit around that.”
Prep (3-6) plays Pecos on Friday night before taking on St. Michael’s on Oct. 2 for its District 2-3A opener.
