LEOMINSTER -- There are a few seats still available for a free Workforce Training Fund workshop geared toward covering some of a company’s needs, according to Scott Percifull, a business service representative for MassHire North Central Career Center.
The Massachusetts Workforce Training Fund is a program that provides matching dollars to eligible businesses who are investing in their staff.
At this workshop, which will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 17, companies can learn how to apply for funding and acquire guidance on training programs that will meet your company’s specific needs.

Grant facilitates nursing degrees
FITCHBURG -- With the need for baccalaureate- level nurses continuing to rise, Fitchburg State University has received a grant from the Massachusetts Department of Higher Education that makes it easier for nursing students from three Massachusetts community colleges to complete their bachelor’s degrees.
The university received the $29,000 DHE Higher Education Nursing & Allied Health Grant to develop admissions agreements between Fitchburg State and Quinsigamond, Bristol and Middlesex Community Colleges. The project will allow associate’s degree-earning registered nurses to matriculate into Fitchburg State’s online RN to BS in Nursing program while they remain in the workforce.Transferring students will be allowed to bring more of their credits from the partner institutions and will have guaranteed admission to Fitchburg State earlier in their academic career.
