21 days in jail for Havasu woman facing drug charges
A three week Mohave County jail term was ordered Thursday for a Lake Havasu City woman who was arrested on drug charges early this year. Adreanna Gaston, 22, is one of four people taken into custody following a Jan. 26 search of a residence at 2785 Barbara Drive in Lake Havasu.
Prosecutor Amanda Claerhout said officers first responded to a domestic dispute at the home. She said arriving officers detected an odor of marijuana which enabled them to secure a warrant to search the property.
Claerhout said the search of the home and its occupants netted the seizure of more than 17 grams of cocaine, more than 130 prescription pills, drug paraphernalia and almost $700 in cash. She said Gaston was originally charged with possessing 11.2 grams of cocaine for sale.
Gaston pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of attempted possession of a narcotic drug.
Defense attorney Chris Donis told Mohave County Superior Court Judge Rick Lambert that Gaston was merely a person in the wrong place at the wrong time and that co-defendants were responsible for most of the illegal activity at the residence. Judge Lambert rejected Donis’ request that no further jail time be imposed.
``I’ve only given you 21 days when I could have given you a whole year,” Lambert told Gaston. ``There has to be some consequence for this.”
Gaston was told she must begin serving her jail time by June 16. Judge Lambert also placed Gaston on supervised probation for three years and ordered her to perform 200 hours of community work service.
Co-defendants awaiting resolution of their cases through trials or by other means include Kevin Leal, 30, Jagger Petersen, and Zed Smith, 20.
