Sonics’ Payton Carried From Floor
SEATTLE (AP) _ Seattle guard Gary Payton was carried from the floor by teammates after slipping in the second quarter of the SuperSonics’ game against Chicago on Thursday night.
Payton, who missed most of the first quarter because of a strained abdominal muscle, Payton stayed on the floor for more than a minute in the second quarter, clutching his midsection.
Television replays showed him slipping after maneuvering behind Bryce Drew to the basket with about 5:40 left in the half.
Payton left the game early in the first quarter after appearing to slip on a defensive play near the Chicago basket. He returned for the start of the second quarter.
Payton was slowed in December and early January by a strained groin, but he did not miss any games because of injury.
