Vesterheim to host Norwegian Christmas celebration Saturday
DECORAH, Iowa — A traditional Norwegian Christmas, with crafts, live entertainment and holiday treats, will be celebrated Saturday at the Vesterheim Norwegian-American Museum in Decorah.
In the juletrefest, Christmas songs will be sung around the tree, and stories of the julenisse (Christmas elf) will be told. Costumed julebukker will roam the museum to scare away evil spirits.
There will also be live goats, make-and-take arts and crafts, and the showing of two films, including “Journey to the Christmas Star.” Live music will be performed, and the museum store will be open for Christmas shopping.
A pop-up cafe will serve soup, lefse, rommegrot, julekake and sandbakkeler.
Hours of the festival are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cafe is open until 5 p.m.
