Belarus, Russia Win Biathlon Relays
OSLO, Norway (AP) _ Belarus shot cleanly to win the men’s relay and the Russian women missed only two targets in their victory at a World Cup biathlon meet Thursday.
Belarus was timed in 1 hour, 20 minutes, 38.0 seconds, beating Russia and Olympic champion Norway by more than a minute at one of the most famous venues in Nordic skiing.
Russia and Norway, anchored by four-time Olympic champion Ole Einar Bjorndalen, both had one miss in the 30-kilometer event.
Belarus overtook Russia for first in the overall standings and now leads 308 points to 306 with only one relay left in the series.
Russia covered the women’s 24-kilometer event in 1:11.44.4, beating Belarus by 58.6 seconds and France by 1.27.
Host Norway had one of its worst showings this season, placing seventh and a whopping 5.17 minutes behind after a poor shooting performance.
In the women’s overall standings, Russia leads Olympic champion Germany 326-324 with one relay left.
Individual races are scheduled this weekend at Holmenkollen, the cradle of Nordic skiing.
