Reading Man Faces A Felony Counts For Fleeing Dunmore Police

May 16, 2019

A Reading man faces felony counts after recklessly fleeing police in a minivan he later crashed and endangering other drivers, Dunmore police said. Lackawanna County Detective John Munley and Dunmore Detective Corey Condrad were travelling west Tuesday afternoon on Davis Street when they witnessed a minivan driven by Levi Green, 35, 932 Franklin St., make an abrupt turn onto Pittston Avenue. Green nearly struck a pickup truck while making another abrupt turn onto Kane Street, police said in charging documents. When the detectives attempted to stop the minivan, Green accelerated into the oncoming lane, passing a construction vehicle and nearly hitting a car. Detectives did not pursue the minivan out of concerns for safety, but provided the county 911 Center a description of the vehicle and its license plate number. Within minutes, state police located Green’s minivan near mile marker 178 on Interstate 81 South. He struck a guardrail and completely disabled the vehicle after erratically speeding south on the interstate, travelling at times on the shoulder, police said. Detectives seized two cellphones and $595 cash from Green, who faces two felony counts of fleeing police, two misdemeanor counts of recklessly endangering another person and summary charges of reckless and careless driving. Green remains in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.
