NEW DELHI, India (AP) _ A bus in eastern Assam state swerved off a bridge and into a gorge today, killing 10 people and injuring 56 others, Press Trust of India news agency said.

It said the bus driver had turned to avoid a cyclist and lost control.

The bus was carrying passengers from Goalpara to Dhupdhara in Assam when it broke through protective rails on the side of the bridge at Nandeswar, near Guwahati, about 906 miles east of New Delhi, PTI said.
