Rubin, Van Roost, Schultz-McCarthy, Raymond gain semifinals
QUEBEC (AP) _ American Chanda Rubin and Dominique Van Roost of Belgium advanced to semifinals of the Bell Challenge women’s tennis tournament Friday.
Van Roost, the No. 4 seed, defeated Jolene Wantabe of the United States 6-1, 6-2. Rubin, the No. 5 seed, beat Alejandra Vento of Venezuela 6-4, 6-1.
Also advancing were top-seeded Brenda Schultz-McCarthy of the Netherlands and American Lisa Raymond.
Schultz-McCarthy beat American Corina Marariu 1-6, 6-2, 6-1, and will take on Rubin in the semifinals.
Raymond defeated Magdalena Grzybowska of Poland 6-2, 7-6 (7-3), and will play Van Roost.
