My Favorite Grub eats up Calder’s Turf Handicap
MIAMI (AP) _ My Favorite Grub edged Parklo by a head Saturday in the $150,000 Turf Cup Handicap at Calder.
Ridden by Ramon Dominguez, My Favorite Grub ran five furlongs on the turf course in 56 2-5, and paid $11.20, $5.20 and $3.60. Parklo returned $5.20 and $3.80, and El Gran Fernando paid $11.40 to show.
It was the third straight victory for My Favorite Grub, a 4-year-old Florida-bred son of Grub owned by Celina’s stable. He earned $90,000.
Last year, My Favorite Grub won only once in seven starts and earned $22,460. This year he has won four times and finished second three times in 13 races, earning $156,440.
Parklo, after coming between horses from sixth, made a powerful run outside My Favorite Grub, but came up just short.
