Florence Police officer killed; six others wounded in Vintage Place shooting

An active shooter situation in the West Florence area is over, a suspect is in custody, five officers have been shot and one has died Tuesday evening near Hoffmeyer Road in the west Florence area.

FLORENCE, S.C. — Seven law enforcement officers were shot, one fatally, while serving a warrant in a west Florence subdivision late Wednesday afternoon.

The suspect was taken into custody following a two-hour standoff, said Maj. Mike Nunn, Florence County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Deputy Glen Kirby with the Florence County Sheriff’s Office told reporters on the scene that three deputies and two city of Florence Police officers were shot.

Some of the shooting victims are being treated at Carolinas Hospital System, which is on lockdown, hospital spokesman John Russell said.

“It’s truly precautionary,” he said of the lockdown.
