ATTN: SPORTS EDITORS, PREPS WRITERS

Nominations are now being accepted for the 2018 Associated Press all-state prep football team for North Carolina, offensive and defensive player of the year, and coach of the year.

Please email your nominations to The Associated Press by 4 P.M. ON TUESDAY, DEC. 18 in the following format: PLAYER, School, position, year, height, weight — stats, honors, college commitment, etc.

Please specify which players are being nominated for offensive or defensive player of the year on your list in addition to all-state team nominees.

Don’t forget to nominate worthy punters, place-kickers, tight ends and return specialists. Also feel free to nominate a player at “athlete,” which is designed to cover all-around talents who don’t especially fit at just one position.

You may nominate players to more than one position. Please note, however, that quarterbacks should have at least 2,000 total yards and running backs should have about 1,500 to be considered unless other circumstances warrant (example, RB has 28 touchdowns or had 1,500 yards despite playing little in the fourth quarter because of lopsided scores).

Also, please note that some nominations might be removed by the AP before releasing the ballot if they don’t stack up statistically with most other nominees.

Please email all nominations to Aaron Beard at abeard@ap.org. Please write ALL-STATE NOMINATIONS in subject line.

Please wait to nominate players until their season is complete so that stats are updated through the final game. However, it is important that you please send nominations for players whose seasons are already finished as soon as possible.

Please contact Beard by email if there are questions. Thanks in advance for your cooperation.
