Six Killed in Tennessee Floods
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ The toll from last week’s floods in Tennessee has climbed to six with the death of a 7-year-old boy.
Treet Ashby of Normandy died Sunday at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He had been hospitalized in critical condition since Friday, when a car he was in with his parents slid off a road and overturned in a swollen creek.
His parents _ Jeffrey L. Ashby, 32, and Melissa Ashby, 35 _ also died.
Two days of steady rain, more than 8 inches in two days in some areas, caused flooding across Middle Tennessee that swamped roads, damaged homes and closed schools.
In addition to the Ashby family, the body of a Knoxville woman was found in a creek. A Cookeville city worker drowned when he was swept into a drainage ditch, along with a man who tried to help him.
