Elway Coming Back to Broncos
DENVER (AP) _ Quarterback John Elway, Denver’s most adored and celebrated sports figure, ended four months of speculation today when he formally announced he would return for a 16th season with the Broncos.
The agonizing suspense began for fans and everyone in the Broncos organization in January after Elway led Denver to its first Super Bowl championship in five tries.
The victory left Elway with the choice of ending his legendary career at the top or returning to defend the title with several personal milestones within reach.
Elway, who will turn 38 on June 28, needs 1,311 passing yards to join Dan Marino as the only NFL quarterback to reach 50,000. He also is 22 touchdowns from 300 and 87 completions from 4,000.
