Affleck, Damon in Running for Award

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, the young writers and actors of ``Good Will Hunting,″ are in the running for a Writers Guild of America award for their screenplay.

``Titanic″ creator James Cameron also won a nomination Wednesday in the same category _ best screenplay written directly for the screen. The Writers Guild prizes will be handed out Feb. 21 at ceremonies in Beverly Hills and New York.

Damon and Affleck already have picked up a Golden Globe for their script.

Other nominees for best screenplay written directly for the screen are ``As Good As It Gets,″ screenplay by Mark Andrus and James L. Brooks, story by Andrus; ``Boogie Nights,″ by Paul Thomas Anderson and ``The Full Monty″ by Simon Beaufoy.

James Schamus’ ``The Ice Storm,″ based on the novel by Rick Moody, won a nomination for best screenplay based on material previously produced or published.

Other contenders include ``Donnie Brasco,″ Paul Attanasio, based on the book by Joseph D. Pistone with Richard Woodley; ``L.A. Confidential,″ Brian Helgeland and Curtis Hanson, based on the novel by James Ellroy; ``Wag the Dog,″ Hilary Henkin and David Mamet, based on the book ``American Hero″ by Larry Beinhart; ``The Wings of the Dove,″ Hossein Amini, based on the novel by Henry James.
