HOUSE DISTRICT 69: O’NEILL IN LEAD
Republican incumbent Arthur O’Neill appeared to have beat Democratic challenger Greg Cava in the race for the state House’s 69th District.
O’Neill said he was up by at least 1,600 votes, with numbers in from all but Washington and absentee ballots. With that, he said it would have been “almost impossible” to lose. Officials numbers were not available by deadline.
“I’m feeling good,” he said. “I’m glad the voters of the 69th District have chosen me to be their representative.”
O’Neill is from Southbury and the House’s longest-serving GOP member, while Cava is a Roxbury resident and member of the Region 12 Board of Education.
The 69th District covers Bridgewater, Roxbury, Washington and Southbury
The candidates had differed on tolls, a measure O’Neill opposes and Cava supports.
O’Neill also called for reducing taxes to make the state more business-friendly and reducing spending by extending the wage freeze for state employees and cutting the budgets of some state agencies.
Cava could not be immediately reached for comment by deadline.
