Diane Sawyer Interviews Ken Starr

November 22, 1998

NEW YORK (AP) _ ABC’s Diane Sawyer has interviewed Kenneth Starr for a ``20/20″ segment that will air Wednesday night, giving the network the two biggest newsmagazine interviews to come out of President Clinton’s sex scandal.

Sawyer’s interview with Starr was conducted Saturday in Washington, the network said Sunday.

Last week, ABC announced that Monica Lewinsky had agreed to an interview with Barbara Walters that would air sometime next year.

Sawyer also spoke to several prosecutors in Starr’s office who talk about internal debates and tactics in the ongoing investigation of President Clinton. The show airs at 10 p.m. EST on Wednesday.

During her interview with Starr, Sawyer notes that the counsel’s referral to Congress has been called ``demented pornography″ by some critics for its graphic sexual details. She asked whether Starr regretted the tone of the referral.

``Diane,″ Starr replied, ``Don’t fault career prosecutors for telling the truth.″
